About Me

Hi I'm Serena, a student studying the Bachelor of Design (Interaction Design) at the University of Sydney. My genuine passion for art, design and lifelong pursuits of creative direction has lead me to where I am today. Throughout my journey in UI/UX design, I have developed an appreciation for user-centred design processes in when designing for products and services. Currently, alongside my studies I work at a health-technology start-up which has extended myself to designing interfaces for AI-driven software. I also work casually as a student partner at USYD - where I help design learning materials for health-science courses.

Innovation is my North Star in design—seeking it, understanding it, creating it. I believe in designing experiences that don't just answer today's questions but also anticipate tomorrow's challenges. For me, each project is a new adventure, a chance to craft something meaningful and forward-thinking, where the user’s needs are not just met but anticipated and celebrated.

When I’m not designing you might find me sketching or documenting my life through photos as other creative outlets - and I’ll probably be listening to a podcast while doing this. This podcast could be about anything from true-crime to the latest UX trends. In my ideal world you’ll find me jet-setting to foreign places, indulging myself in new cultures and striking up conversation with the locals - I always want to learn more about the world.

Designer

Currently I am the driving force behind branding, product design, and content design initiatives at this health technology startup. I collaborate with engineering teams to conceptualise and create AI-powered workflow automation tools. I leverage Figma to produce iterative designs. I contribute to front-end development efforts with proficient use of JavaScript, CSS, and HTML to enhance our company’s online presence.

My creative expertise shines in crafting compelling visual designs, where I produce an array of illustrations, graphics, and both promotional and informational assets suited for print and digital platforms, utilising the Adobe Creative Suite and Procreate to communicate our vision and engage our audience effectively.

Student Partner

As a one of 5 student partners of the professionalism strategic education grant, I collaborate closely with the project supervisors and interdisciplinary students to design and test educational tools developed to educate students on professionalism in health care practice. This 9 month project involves working through an end to end design process beginning with the research phase.

Digital Health Internship

During my Digital Health Internship I guided a qualitative study on health technology's role in supporting multidisciplinary team (MDT) workflows in Women’s Health. I used inductive thematic analysis techniques to extract meaningful insights from complex data sets. On Figma, I created designs to communicate findings for the report. I produced a comprehensive report that included literature reviews with empirical data, culminating in digital strategy recommendations to improve patient and staff experiences within Women’s Health settings.

I also represented our findings at the 2-day 2024 Digital Health Festival in Melbourne, presenting our insights as part of the Women's Health Road team’s initiative.

Content and Interaction Designer

In my role, I engaged in a dynamic collaboration with web designers and developers, adopting an iterative design process to successfully launch the website. My responsibilities extended to crafting all branded content for social media platforms, utilising Adobe Creative Suite and Figma to ensure consistency with the company's existing brand identity. Additionally, I embraced the opportunity to diversify my skill set by occasionally taking on a tutoring role, teaching primary English, which allowed me to apply my communication skills in a different context and contribute to educational growth.

Interaction Designer

At Lingo Ledger, a pre-seed startup, I played a crucial role in launching the company's website. My responsibilities involved creating the first interactive prototypes on Figma, a process that laid the foundation for the website's design. This experience not only allowed me to contribute significantly to the startup's early development but rapidly developed my skills in digital design and user experience.
